Sam Bird il pilota della Virgin Racing , sul circuito di Parque O’Higgins,si aggiudica la terza tappa del mondiale di FormulaE.
La griglia di partenza del terzo round , vede in Pole la Lucas di Grassi di Audi Sport Abt. Dietro al brasiliano c’è Sebastien Buemi che precede Pascal Wehrlein. Daniel Abt occupa la quarta casella con il debuttante Stoffel Vandoorne al quinto posto. Sam Bird occupa la sesta posizione sulla griglia.
Il brasiliano Di Grassi , che aveva ottenuto il miglior tempo , da primo si è ritrovato ultimo. Il pilota dell’Audi è stato penalizzato per non aver rispettato la procedura prevista nel giro di rientro.
La Gara
Alla partenza nessun contato, i piloti mantengono le loro posizioni. Nelle retrovie succede di tutto. Mortara si gira dopo un contatto con Sims, Massa va a muro stretto da Gunther, Vergne viene tamponato da Da Costa che a sua volta viene colpito da Lotterer e Vandoorne sbaglia e va a schiantarsi pure lui.
A 25 minuti dalla fine della gara viene imposto il regime di Full Course Yellow per consentire la rimozione della Dragon di Gunther , fermatasi in pista
Riparte la gara, con Bird che insedia Buemi per la prima posizione. Nel frattempo, Vandoorne finsce a “ muro” perdendo entrambe le ali anteriori e danneggiando il retro della sua auto. Full Course Yellow schierato nuovamente. La corsa sono ricominciate con 18 minuti dalla fine.
Bird sfrutta bene la seconda ripartenza, si avvicina a Buemi mettendogli pressione. Quando mancano 15 minuti alla fine lo svizzero, leader della gara ,tocca le barriere rompendo l’ala e i passaruota. Rientra ai box per sostituire il muso, ma ha la sospensione piegata. Gara finita per lui.
Bird raggiunge la testa della gara alle sue spalle Wehrlein , terzo Sims.
A pochi minuti dalla fine Il rookie Wehrlein , va all’attacco dell’inglese. Ma il sogno di vincere la sua prima si infrange quando la sua vettura deve combattere con le alte temperature.
All’ultimo giro Bird ha 5 secondi di vantaggio su Wehrlein. Secondi che permettono all’inglese di Vincere. Alle sue spalle giunge debuttante di Mahindra Racing, Pascal Wehrlein. Il gradino più basso del podio è occupato da Alexander Sims della BMW. Fuori dal podio Daniel Abt , quarto .
Ma questo Gran Premio ha in servo un ultimo colpo di scena.
Di Grassi e Sims vengono penalizzati di 5 secondi per aver causato una collisione. Sims perde il podio a favore di Daniel Abt su Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler.
La Classifiche Piloti
Dopo Gara3, con i quattro punti conquistati in Cile, D’Ambrosio con 44 punti mantiene la testa della classifica piloti. Bird , con i 25 punti conquistati si pone al secondo posto a solo una lunghezza,43. Terzo con 28 punti il portoghese Da Costa.
La classifica Team
Dopo la terza gara la Envision Virgin Racing è in testa , con 71 punti , alla classifica squadre. In seconda posizione con 62 , si trova la Mahindra Racing. La terza piazza con 47 punti è occupata dalla Ds Techeetah Formula E Team.
Il prossimo E-Prix è fissato per il 26 febbraio con l’E-Prix di Città del Messico.
