Una gara quella marocchina piena di colpi di scena e che ha visto il harakiri delle BMV. Un harakiri che ha permesso alla Mahindra di vincere per il secondo anno di fila a Marrakech.
La Gara
Sulla linea di partenza la prima posizione è di Sam Bird. Per il pilota della Envision Virgin Racing è la quinta pole in carriera. Alle sue spalle Jean-Eric Vergne che preecede Antonio Felix da Costa . Sebastien Buemi inizierà la gara al quarto posto. Con la BMW di Andretti Motorsport Alex Sims occupa la quinta posizione . Il sesto in griglia è Mitch Evans della Panasonic Jaguar Racing . Gli altri a seguire.
Alla prima curva Vergne tenta il sorpasso sul “ polman”, tentando di portare all’interno Bird. I due piloti si toccano è il Francese ha la peggio, finendo in testacoda. Scivola al 19 posto, in penultima posizione. Con una gara fatta di grinta e sorpassi , Vergne giunge al traguardo in quinta posizione.
Dopo 15 minuti di gara Da Costa supera il suo compagno di squadra Sims, e si pone alle spalle del capofila con la sua BMW. Alla curva quattro il portoghese prende il comando del gruppo, dopo un giro passato a tallonare l’inglese. Nella curva successiva Sims, pone il muso della sua monoposto davanti a Bird e conquista la seconda piazza.
Le due BMW sono al comando del gran premio.
Bird , finito in terza piazza , precede il suo compagno Frijns il belga d’Ambrosio e Lucas di Grassi.
A metà gara Frijns scavalca Bird, portandosi in terza posizione. Facendo uso di ATTACK MODE sia il belga della Mahindra che Di Grassi con l’Audi scavalcano Bird. Dopo poche curve, con il sorpasso su Frijns , i due piloti salgono alla terza e quarta posizione. Per mantenere inalterato il vantaggio le due vetture di testa azionano l’ ATTACK MODE.
Harakiri BMV
Il colpo di scena arriva quando mancano dieci minuti alla fine della gara. In un disastroso tentativo di passare al comando Sims tocca il suo compagno di squadra, al comando, costringendo il portoghese al ritiro.
Sims paga il prezzo della errata mossa e scende in quarta posizione. Bird si ritrova in terza posizione, Frijns in seconda e d’Ambrosio in testa.
Viene fatta uscire la Saftey Car , per recuperare la BMW incidentata, che congela le posizioni , mentre il tempo scorre. Quando rientra , manca solo giro alla fine della gara Marocchina.
D’Ambrosio, difendendo il suo vantaggio e taglia il traguardo per primo. In seconda e terza posizione ci sono Robin Frijins e Sam Bird di Envision Virgin Racing, che hanno combattuto nel caos per mantenere il loro posto sul podio.
La Classifiche Piloti
Conquistando Gara2, il pilota belga si pone in testa alla classifica piloti con 40 punti. La seconda piazza è occupata dal portoghese Da Costa , con 28 punti. Con gli stessi punti terzo, è il francese Vergne, per peggiori piazzamenti.
