Ferrari 166 MM, 1948 – 1953
 
Il 15 settembre 1948 fanno la loro prima apparizione, durante il Salone Internazionale  dell’Auto di Torino, due nuove versioni della Ferrari 166.
 La casa di Maranello le battezza con le sigle 166 S e 166 M. Entrambe nascono dalla carrozzeria milanese Touring, nota anche per il suo sistema di fabbricazione denominato “Superleggera”.
 Nel 1949 ad un anno dalla sua presentazione è proposta la versione 166 LM, Le Mans. Una trasposizione , per soddisfare le esigenze di aerodinamica e confort nelle corse di durata.
 Nel 1953 viene ritoccata nella meccanica e una nuova serie di 20 vetture esce dalle officine di Vignale. Proponendola sia in versione aperta che chiusa.

La 166 MM è nata per vincere tutto. Si aggiudica la Targa Florio, la Mille Miglia, la 24 ore di Le Mans, la 24 ore di Francorchamps.

La 166 Sport nasce nei primi mesi del 1948.

 

La carrozzeria Allemano allestisce una berlinetta e uno spider contrassegnate dalle sigle 001S e 003S. Nell’autunno seguente , grazie ai successi sportivi viene prodotta la 005S allestita dalla Tourig. Altre carrozzerie ( Farina ,Ghia, Vignale e Bertone ) proporranno carrozzerie aperte e chiuse.

Nel 1949 da denominazione muta in 166 Inter. Finalizzata ad uso stradale si rivolge a una clientela selezionata. Adotta un telaio a passo lungo, di misura non costante. Un motore che è diretto discendente delle due litri da corsa.

La 166 F2 è la prima a sfruttare della F2 appena varata.

166 MM

 

All’esordio adotta un motore due litri nella versione più esasperata IL 155cv funzionante a miscela. Il telaio, modificato nel avantreno e quello della 125 F1. Nel 1949 una nuova evoluzione, con varianti di carrozzeria e sospensioni. Nuovo circuito di lubrificazione, telaio a passo lungo. Nel 1951 è realizzato un nuovo motore V12 sottoquadro, progettato da Lampredi, che resterà allo stato di prototipo.

 

 

 

 

 

Con la denominazione 166 C America, definita anche 166 FL , Formula Libera, vengono costruite una serie di Sei vetture.

L’obiettivo sono le corse Sud Americane e in prospettiva la 500 Miglia di Indianapolis.

Ispirata alla 125 F1, viene esasperato il rapporto peso – potenza, e viene applicato al motore due litri un compressore. La balestra trasversale, nella sospensione posteriore viene rimpiazzata da le barre di torsione. Questo permette di scaricare a terra tutta la potenza della 166 C. I freni vengono potenziati e un differenziale autobloccante fa aumentare l’aderenza delle ruote motrici.  Su alcune vetture viene adottato un telaio a passo lungo, sono quelle che dovrebbero partecipare alla corsa di Indianapolis del 1950. Ma l’iscrizione per l’anno 1950 viene rifiutata per la presunta incogruenza col il regolamento specifico.
